5 Players Turning Heads Across College Football

Updated: Oct 20

As the 2026 college football season continues, several players across the country are establishing themselves as major difference-makers. From star quarterbacks to explosive receivers and dominant defenders, these five players are worth keeping an eye on as the season moves forward.
Arch Manning — QB, Texas
Arch Manning remains one of the biggest names in college football. The Texas quarterback has the talent and experience to lead the Longhorns through another demanding season. Manning has already demonstrated his ability to make plays through the air while also using his mobility when needed.
His connection with wide receiver Cam Coleman has also become one of the most intriguing combinations in the country. Against UTSA, Manning connected with Coleman for two early touchdown passes in Texas' 30-6 victory.
Marcel Reed — QB, Texas A&M
Marcel Reed enters 2026 as one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the country. The Texas A&M starter has already accumulated more than 5,000 career passing yards and more than 1,000 rushing yards.
Reed's ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground makes him one of the Aggies' most important players. He also enters the season with numerous preseason award watch-list appearances.
Cam Coleman — WR, Texas
Cam Coleman gives Texas another explosive weapon on offense. After transferring to Austin, Coleman quickly became one of the most anticipated additions to the Longhorns' roster.
His early connection with Manning has already produced big plays. Coleman caught two touchdown passes against UTSA, showing why he is one of the receivers to watch throughout the 2026 season.
Colin Simmons — EDGE, Texas
While Texas has plenty of offensive stars, Colin Simmons gives the Longhorns a difference-maker on defense. The edge rusher entered the 2026 season as a preseason All-American and one of the nation's players to watch.
Simmons' ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks gives Texas another way to control games. His performance will be especially important as the Longhorns face some of the toughest offenses on their schedule.
Owen McCown — QB, UTSA
Owen McCown is one of the most important players to watch in San Antonio. The UTSA quarterback provides experience and leadership for the Roadrunners and was also selected to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list.
McCown faced one of his biggest tests of the season against Texas when the Roadrunners traveled to Austin. Despite the 30-6 loss, his presence remains important as UTSA continues its season and looks to compete in conference play.
Five Players, Five Different Paths
Manning, Reed, Coleman, Simmons and McCown all bring different strengths to the field. Manning and Reed lead their offenses from the quarterback position, Coleman provides a big-play threat, Simmons anchors the pass rush, and McCown represents one of the top players in the San Antonio college football scene.
With the season continuing, each player has an opportunity to make an even bigger impact and become a major part of the 2026 college football conversation.
