SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Brennan Bears opened District 29-6A play with a dominant performance Saturday night, defeating the Taft Raiders 56-7 at Farris Stadium.

Brennan entered the matchup at 1-1 after splitting its first two games, including a 28-21 loss to Vandegrift and a 63-0 shutout of Reagan. Taft came into the game undefeated at 2-0 after victories over Del Valle and Eagle Pass.

The Bears controlled the game from the start, combining strong offensive production with another impressive defensive performance. Brennan had already recorded a shutout the previous week, and its defense once again made it difficult for an opponent to consistently move the football.

Taft managed to get on the scoreboard, but Brennan's offense continued to add points throughout the game. The Bears ultimately finished with a 56-7 victory, moving to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in district play.

For Taft, the loss ended a two-game winning streak. The Raiders entered district play with victories over Del Valle and Eagle Pass, but Brennan's defense and offensive attack created a difficult challenge.

The matchup also continued a long-running series between the two San Antonio programs. Brennan entered the game with a 15-1 advantage in the series, with its most recent victory over Taft coming in 2025.

Brennan followed the victory by continuing its strong start to district play, defeating Sotomayor 49-0 on September 19. The Bears moved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in district play heading into their next matchup against O'Connor.

Taft bounced back the following week, defeating Stevens 35-7 on September 18. The Raiders improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in district play and will next face Warren.

With district play underway, Brennan has established itself as a team to watch in District 29-6A, while Taft will continue looking to build on its strong start to the season.
