SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Canyon Cougars picked up an important road victory Thursday night, defeating the Brandeis Broncos 20-12 at Farris Stadium.

The matchup brought together two teams that entered the night with strong starts to the 2026 season. Brandeis came in at 2-0, while Canyon entered at 1-1 after opening the season with a loss to Madison before bouncing back with a win over New Braunfels.

Canyon controlled enough of the game to come away with the eight-point victory, improving to 2-1 on the season. Brandeis fell to 2-1 after the loss.

The Cougars' defense played an important role throughout the matchup, limiting a Brandeis offense that had scored 52 points combined in its first two games. Brandeis had opened the year with a 35-28 win over O'Connor before defeating United South 17-7.

Canyon's victory also continued its momentum following a 29-18 win over New Braunfels the previous week. The Cougars entered the Brandeis game looking to build on that performance, and they did exactly that with another strong defensive showing.

For Brandeis, the loss marked its first setback of the season. The Broncos will now turn their attention toward district play, beginning with a matchup against Reagan on September 26.

Canyon will return to district competition against East Central, carrying a 2-1 record into the matchup.

The 20-12 final highlighted a competitive battle between two Central Texas programs, with Canyon doing enough on both sides of the ball to leave San Antonio with the victory.

Final: Canyon 20, Brandeis 12.
