Steele Pulls Away From Wagner in 56-19 District Victory

Updated: Oct 20

CIBOLO, Texas — The Steele Knights opened district play in impressive fashion Friday night, defeating the Wagner Thunderbirds 56-19 in a District 27-6A matchup.
Steele entered the game looking to build momentum after a 28-28 tie with Lake Travis the previous week. Wagner came into the matchup at 1-1 after defeating Del Rio 27-7 in Week 3.
The Knights wasted little time setting the tone. Steele's offense consistently found ways to move the football, while its defense limited Wagner's opportunities throughout the night. By the end of the game, Steele had produced 205 passing yards and 238 rushing yards, according to MaxPreps.
Wagner continued to compete, but Steele's offensive production proved difficult to slow down. The Knights finished with 56 points, while Wagner scored 19.
The victory moved Steele to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in District 27-6A. Wagner dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in district play.
For Steele, the win provides an important start to district competition. After facing tough competition early in the season, the Knights now have their first district victory on the board.
Wagner will look to bounce back next week when the Thunderbirds host Judson on September 26. Steele's next scheduled game is against Pieper on September 25.
With district play now underway, both teams will have plenty to build on as they continue through the 2026 season.
